British pop star of Albanian origin Dua Lipa’s concert in Tirana broke the World Record for number of spectators by a solo female artist. Dua Lipa praised by president for spreading the nation’s fame internationally through her music and granted Albanian citizenship.
President Bajram Begaj said on Sunday that Lipa was granted citizenship ahead of Albania’s 110th anniversary of independence from the Ottoman empire. Begaj said he considered it an honour to do so because Lipa has made Albanians famous throughout the world.
“I will be an Albanian with papers too,” Lipa said before taking her citizenship oath at Tirana city hall.
Her show was held for the 110th Albania’s Independence Day. She made the entrance free for everybody as they were celebrating the Flag Day.
According to some reports, there were an estimated 200,000 spectators, which made it the most attended solo concert by a solo female artist in history. It surpassed the record set by Tina Turner in 1988 when she performed in front of a record-breaking crowd of 180,000 fans at the Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
